MALAYSIA PRAISED: Professor hopes the world will take note

MALAYSIA is brave to organise a war crimes tribunal and to recognise former United States president George W. Bush and his associates as war criminals.

In a public forum entitled "9/11 and the Ecological Crisis", renowned theologian scholar and author Professor David Ray Griffin praised Malaysia for having the courage to bring these prominent figures to justice and to expose their crimes to the international community.

"Someone has to get started somewhere, and this is a good start, Malaysia is ideally placed in this aspect and hopefully the international community will take notice," he said.

In his lecture, Griffin also explained his theory on the Sept 11 attacks, claiming that it was a "staged event" and could not have been the work of Muslim terrorists.

He explained that the rigid steel columns of the (World Trade Center) twin towers made it impossible for them to crumble unless they had been rigged with explosives.

"The twin towers were built to sustain impacts similar to large planes striking them. In other words, claims about impacting planes and resulting fires being responsible are scientifically impossible.

"Several experts have found that other features of the towers' destruction can only be explained in terms of powerful explosives, including horizontal ejections of steel beams, the melting of steel, and the sulphidation and thinning of steel."

Griffin added that the fires could not have come within 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit of the temperature needed to melt steel.

He also alleged that the hijackers had minimal competence to fly single-engine aircraft, let alone be able to handle commercial jets.

"Experienced pilots have told me that Hani Hanjour the person alleged to have hit wedge one of the Pentagon could not possibly have executed the amazing (AA 77) trajectory as even experienced airline pilots would have had trouble negotiating, and never would have tried, fearing they'd crash and burn."

Griffin noted that more than any others, Muslims have paid the greatest price as a result of 9/11 that later launched the war on terrorism.

"We have started something called consensus 9/11 where we have gathered several experts to provide the world with a clear statement, based on expert independent opinion, of some of the best evidence opposing the official narrative about 9/11."

Last year, former prime minister Tun Mahathir Mohamad wrote in his blog that he felt the alleged Arab Muslims said to be responsible for the attacks were incapable of doing so.

He had said that the attacks could have been "staged" as an excuse to mount attacks on the Muslim world.

"But whether real or staged, the 9/11 attacks have served the United States and Western countries well. They have an excuse to mount attacks on the Muslim world," he was reported as saying.

The forum, which was organised by the International Institute of Islamic Studies Malaysia and International Movement for a Just World, ended with a call from moderator Just World Movement president Dr Chandra Muzaffar for an international enquiry on the Sept 11 attacks.
